What will you be doing?

Joining us as a Food Safety & Trading Standards Advisor, you will be key in helping to protect customers, members, and colleagues by leading Food Safety and Trading Standards compliance across Retail Food operations.

 

As a subject matter expert, you’ll be providing professional advice, drive continuous improvement, and ensure legal and regulatory standards are understood and applied in practice.

 

You’ll be working with teams across our trading estate as well as with internal and external stakeholders (i.e. regulatory partners, professional advisors and service providers).

 

In this varied role you’ll be supporting safe, legal and responsible trading, through effective policy and risk management.


Providing that technical, legal and compliance advice on how we store, move, display and sell our food product range and age restricted items across our stores, cafes and home delivery operations.

 

Advising and working with the business to safely roll-out new concepts that make our business stand out.

 

A car is provided with this role and will include travel to our retail premises including new stores and cafes. A mix of hybrid home/office working is available for this role.

How will I know if I am right for this role?

Ideally, you will be experienced in working in a compliance role within a large, multi-site organisation.

 

You will be a motivated individual who has the drive and enthusiasm to make a difference in a Society that is fast-paced and embracing new concepts and technology.

 

You’ll be experienced in interpreting legal and regulatory requirements in respect of Food Safety and Trading Standards requirements and can influence key stakeholders in changes required including the delivery of training where required.

 

Understanding our brand and Co-operative principles, you’ll be focussed on ensuring we operate legally and responsibly but at the same time pragmatic to meet the evolving needs of the business. Confident in challenging others where issues of non-compliance are identified.

 

You will be skilled in supporting investigations and able to bring a strategic mindset with a practical approach to problem- solving.

 

Essential to this role are both a full UK driving licence as well as the flexibility and willingness to travel where required (with the potential for some overnight stays).

 

 

Qualifications

 

Essential:

  • GCSE grades A-C in English and Maths.

    Desirable:

  • A degree in Environmental Health, Food Technology, or a related field
  • Level 3 or above in Food Safety
  • Level 2 in HACCP
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • A recognized qualification in alcohol licensing e.g. BIIAB Level 2 Award for Personal License Holders.
